Tommaso Traetta composed the dramatic opera 'Antigona' based on the Greek tragedy by Sophocles which is still relevant. King Creon breaks with a tradition by refusing his niece Antigone to bury her brother after a battle. This turns into a gripping family drama. The music of the Italian composer is reminiscent of the work of Mozart and Gluck and consists of monumental choral scenes, dramatic arias and a colourful orchestration. The director is Floris Visser who became well-known with his wonderful version of 'Orphée et Eurydice' at the Nederlandse Reisopera.
