Eigenzinnig en explosief danstheater over de kracht van empathie

In Islands of Empathy zoekt Club Guy & Roni naar hoe empathie een drijvende kracht kan zijn in hoe we met elkaar samenleven. In Nederland hebben we geleerd om als individuen continu de beste versie van onszelf te zijn, als individu en onafhankelijk van de behoeften van anderen. Wanneer je hulp nodig hebt, is er blijkbaar iets mis met je. Een samenleving waarin zelfredzaamheid een aanbeveling is en hulp nodig hebben een teken van zwakte. In heel veel andere samenlevingen lijkt juist het collectief voorop te staan. Met minder ondersteuning van de overheid lijken de bewoners meer op elkaar te steunen.

Islands of Empathy (in a Sea of Chaos) maakt deel uit van Club Guy & Roni’s Human Odyssey, waarin zij verschillende menselijke gevoelens (liefde, angst, geluk, empathie) onderzoeken vanuit een intercultureel perspectief en in samenwerking met een internationaal dansgezelschap.

In Islands of empathy (in a sea of chaos), Club Guy & Roni explores how empathy can be a driving force in the way we live together. In the Netherlands, we’ve learned always to be the best versions of ourselves as individuals, independently of others’ needs. If you need help, there must be something wrong with you: this is a society in which self-reliance is the norm, and dependence on others a sign of weakness. In many other communities, the collective comes to the fore: with less support from government, people rely more on one another.

Islands of empathy is part of Club Guy & Roni’s Human Odyssey, which investigates feelings like love, fear, happiness, and empathy from an intercultural perspective and in collaboration with an international dance company.
